This is one of my favorite parts of the addition (and Leslie's too). The brick was originally the exterior wall of the garage. Since it was such a wonderful architectural feature, I incorporated it into the addition--as the hallway that leads to the master suite. The ceiling line hit a bit lower than 8'-0" in the garage and the door to the backyard was removed--leading to sheetrock that is furred around the brick. Leslie applied a black onyx venetian plaster, and voila, the Black Pearl was born. The can lights highlight the wood flooring while washing the brick with light. I love it. And, it's the perfect backdrop for a single bloom.
